ArtsEast is pleased to present COWBOY GEAR: An Exhibit of Functional Western Arts & Crafts. An opening reception will be held on March 4, 5 – 8 PM at their gallery in La Grande. Light refreshments will be served.
“We are honored to present the work of artisans from five northeastern Oregon communities, including Adams, Enterprise, Helix, Hermiston, and Pendleton,” says Deena Heath, director of ArtsEast. “Their work is a significant part of our western culture and it’s important that we showcase it.”
Featured artists include: Larry Bacon, Monty Beckman, Rowdy Barry, Mary Bonifer, Sher Brocher, Shane Crossley, Alan Dewey, Tim George, Don Mallory, Amy Raymond, Randy Severe, Larry Smith, Stacy Smith, Richard Stapleton and ZPT Silversmiths. The exhibit is also dedicated to Horace Henderson, Loren Wood, and Bill and Duff Severe; four “pioneers” in western craftsmanship.
Larry Smith, owner of Smith Saddle in Pendleton, is assisting with the exhibit. “I appreciate the opportunity to help bring together the work of so many people I admire,” says Smith. “Some of the finest leather, rawhide, and silver workers practice their craft in this region and it’s important to recognize their work.”
The ArtsEast Gallery is located in the Community School of the Arts Building on the Eastern Oregon University campus, 6th Street and “L” Avenue directly across from the police station. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM. The exhibit will also be open for Art Walk on March 17, 5 – 8 PM.
COWBOY GEAR will run through April 29. For information, call 541-962-3624 or email dheath@eou.edu.
