Union County Children’s Choir

Winter Holiday Concert 2011

The Union County Children’s Choir is open to children in grades 2 – 6 who reside in Union County. The cost is $125 per academic year, or $62.50 per term. A limited number of scholarships are available through ArtsEast. Please call ArtsEast for more information on how to apply for a scholarship.

The Union County Children’s Choir performs four to five concerts during the year. In the past, concerts included combined performances with the EOU Chamber Choir, the Grande Ronde Community Choir, the Grande Ronde Youth Symphony as well as performances at the Festival of Trees and area retirement centers. Most recently, the Children’s Choir performed in a joint-concert with the Portland Opera.

The Children’s Choir is under the direction of EOU Music Faculty, Dr. Peter Wordelman. Wordelman holds a doctorate in conducting and a master’s degree in voice from the University of Arizona and a bachelor of music in voice from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. As a conductor, he has participated in the Oregon Bach Festival and served as an active adjudicator and guest conductor at festivals in Washington and Oregon.

In 2001-02 Wordelman received a Fulbright scholarship and traveled to Quito, Ecuador where he was a guest faculty member at the Universidad Central. His experience as a singer also includes international tours. He was invited to perform at the Rome Festival in Italy in 1995 and in 2007 he accompanied the EOU Chamber Choir to China.
