Plein Air painting at Ladd Marsh Birdathon on May 19th (9 AM – Noon)

ArtsEast will once again partner with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Friends of Ladd Marsh on the 7th Annual Ladd Marsh Birdathon on May 19.

“Our role was to enlist artists to do plein air painting from 9 AM – Noon on Saturday,” says Deena Heath, ArtsEast Executive Director.  “Plein air is a French expression and means “in the open air.”  The Marsh is a particularly beautiful area and very inspirational to artists who enjoy painting outdoors.  Seeing them at work was a big hit with bird watchers last year and we are delighted to participate once again.”

Participating artists include: Jan Clark along with members of a painting class she is teaching, Jan Cleaver, James Dumble, Joyce Gove, Gary Moses, Linda Peterson, Eloise Stolsig, and Denise Elizabeth Stone.  They will have their easels set up at bird watching stations throughout the marsh and will be pleased to answer questions about their work and the art of plein air painting.”

For information, call 541-962-3624 or send an e-mail.  For additional information about the Birdathon, visit Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife’s website and click on “ODFW Outdoors” and go to “Calendar of Events.

“Working Ranch Women: The Art of Michelle Severe” Opening Reception April 13

ArtsEast is pleased to exhibit the work of Michelle Severe, a Burns, OR self-taught western and wildlife artist.  The community is invited to an opening reception on Friday, April 13 from 5 – 8 PM to see her work and meet the artist. The exhibit will run through May 4.  It will also be open for Art Walk on April 19.

The exhibit will feature her Working Ranch Women series, a representation of her life experiences and visions, in pencil, pastel and oil. “The series acknowledges our hard working ranch women,” says Severe, “It has been understated and long overdue in comparison to men portrayed in art.  This isn’t just about the art, it’s about the strength, balance, and compassion women give to the lives they lead.”

The EOU Rodeo Club will also have displays and doing demonstrations during the opening.

ArtsEast is located in the Community School of the Arts Building, 6th Street and L AVE directly across the street from the La Grande Police Station.  Hours are Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.  Call 541-962-3624 or e-mail for information.
